James D Watson, co-discoverer of the double-helix structure of DNA, has died at the age of 97.
You guys linked us to a movie a while back about this great scientific discovery. His role in the landmark 1953 discovery, alongside Francis Crick and Rosalind Franklin, unlocked the molecular basis of heredity and opened the door to modern genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, and genomic medicine.
Sadly, he had another history. His comments on broadcasted interviews that blacks were less intelligent than whites cost him his career and damaged his legacy. Unfortunate that will always taint his life story.
