The moderating effect of a surrounding ocean and the miles-thick continental glacier covering the continent has kept the Antarctic Sea Ice Extent pretty stable from year to year during the satellite era. The bundle of colored lines representing past SIE attests to that. But the failure of winter SIE to fully recover in 2023 suggests the Southern pole is heading for some catastrophic changes in the near future.
