Just a hypothetical question, a Gedankenexperiment if you like.
Suppose the current war in Palestine turns against Israel. Suppose the surrounding Muslim/Arab states unite against Israel, invade, and the war goes badly for the Jews.
Israel loses the war, surrenders, and is invaded, then occupied, by Arab armies. Do not scoff, its happened before! The Egyptians, Babylonians and the Romans did it.
Assuming there is no general bloodbath and genocide, the Jews choose to leave the Holy Land. Some remain and fight a guerilla war against their authorities (like they did against the English) but most decide to emigrate. They will not tolerate living under what they consider a foreign occupier. In every country that accepts the exiles, they immediately form emigre organizations to take their country back, by any means necessary. Again, don’t scoff. The White Russians did after the Reds prevailed in 1917, the IRA did during the Troubles, and the Cubans did it after Castro took over. Political exile communities are always fantasizing about ‘going back’.
Millions of Jewish refugees head to the USA, requesting political asylum. Will they be welcome? Will the Americans take them in as whole-heartedly as they now accept little brown refugees from Central and South America, Haiti, Asia and Africa? Will the Evangelicals lobby hard to accept them because of the role Israel plays in their Apocalyptic fantasies, after all, they ARE white? How will the Democrats and Republicans respond to the issue? We turned them away in the 1930s, and they died by the millions.
Just a malicious little speculation on my part…
