Johannes’ car weighs about 4000 lbs.
It has 4 tires, so each tire supports 1000 lbs.
Each square inch of tire exerts 30 lbs of force.
So the amount of force each tire needs to support its share of the car’s weight must be provided by roughly 1000/30 = 33.33 square inches of tire surface in contact with the road, or a patch roughly comparable in area to the patch of pavement covered by each of the tires. This is a rectangle a bit smaller than 6×6 square inches or about 15cm x 15cm.
From my experience with flat tires, that’s about right. So what’s the problem?
