The remains of former cultures, societies, even things like the Jamestown settlement seem to be underground. Dust, leaves, moles digging and so on buries these remains and to examine them scientists have to remove a considerable amount of overburden.
I’m assuming the Earth is not increasing in diameter, though maybe it is. Maybe a combination of photosynthesis and chemicals from the ground result in an increase of volume.
Is the Earth’s diameter increasing?
I’m not talking about fossils and plate tectonics. I’m talking about more recent things which get buried.
