Oldest Spiral Galaxy in the Universe Discovered! July 19, 2012 8:35 am RobVG

So which came first, galaxies or stars?

The First Starlight

Be sure to check out how they used gravitational lensing to find these far away stars. The lenses are like portals to the past.

I find these discoveries fascinating, far more so then than Higgs. For the layman, visual proof is more palatable than exposing elementary particles for the tiniest fraction of a second.

Looking at the universe is real and tangible. Looking inside of it is out of the grasp of most people.

The James Web Space Telescope (link) was recently saved from the budget ax. It’s future is still somewhat up in the air. It is an instrument that could broaden our understanding of the creation of the universe.
