Curiosity's tires imprinting "JPL" in Morse code October 25, 2012 11:46 am RobVG

For awhile now I’ve been scratching my head trying to figure out why Curiosity’s wheels have two different tread patterns. One is a conventional atv sand pattern and the other has a pattern with open holes. I thought that the openings might act as some type of inverse cleat. But “noooo”. It’s part of its autonomous driving system.
