Mom has a skin condition that I am trying to clear up. I googled the condition and did a brief research. My thoughts being that if I could determine if this condition is acid or alkaline, I would know how to proceed. I quickly and easily determined it was an acidic issue(fungus). For a natural remedy I looked up a website on natural alternatives. *This* website validated the skin issue as acid, but offered that one should use lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
. I took issue with this recommendation and emailed them my conclusions.
Dear Jody,
Thank you for your email enquiry and helpful feedback.
I can relate to your question as I also found it hard to understand how acidic substances such as lemon juice and apple cider vinegar can be alkalising. However it is a well founded traditional Naturopathic remedy to use the juice from lemons and limes to alkalise the body and reduce inflammation and acidity. It has been found that the citric acid contained in the juice of lemons and limes causes an alkalising reaction on the digestive system and urinary tract. Lemon juice has many healing abilities to improve health such as its ability to alkalise and reduce inflammation, purify, cleanse and cool. It is also an astringent, antiseptic, decongestant, anti-microbial and contains Vitamin C. Although all citrus fruits turn alkaline in the body and are high in Vitamin C content, other citrus fruits (such as oranges and grapefruit) do not exhibit the same therapeutic qualities as a lemon or a lime.
Apple Cider Vinegar is an old fashioned remedy used in cases of indigestion and acidity as it helps to alkalise the body and blood stream by ensuring adequate digestive processes and reducing the formation of acid due to maldigested foods.Yours in health,
