I’m standing at one end of a generic apartment living room. I look down the length of it into the kitchen, and there I spot a small, green, reptilian alien.
A heavily-armed little green reptilian alien, and he’s reaching for a weapon.
I dive into the parallel hallway as a shot rings out–he’s evidently using a “slug-thrower”. I roll and run on up the hallway, and the alien rounds the corner in front of me. He’s low to the ground, so I do the obvious, kicking out, and spoil his aim, though I didn’t knock the weapon out of his hands(?). I keep on kicking, as fast and furiously as I can, consciuously using the leg muscles I’ve built up with therapeutic walking, trying to prevent him from bringing the weapon to bear. I slowly drive him back up the hallway…
…and awaken standing at the foot of the bed, in full flight-or-fight mode, heart pounding, gasping for breath, in a combat stance, desperately searching the dark bedroom for that damned little green reptilian alien who’d been trying to kill me only moments before. No idea how I got there, and maybe the dive into the hallway was really me diving out of bed. And maybe I was kicking the bed clothes tangled on the floor. Damn if I’ll ever know.
That was remarkable. I rarely dream, and when I do, the dreams tend to be banal and forgettable. And despite being a lifelong science fiction fan, I’ve never before dreamed in sci-fi.
So, science fiction fan Zoners, anybody else ever have a sci-fi nightmare? Or even just a sci-fi dream?

The one most magnificent dream I had back 20 years ago and is as vivid today as it was then. ...
