Earth Wind Map February 28, 2014 10:52 pm podrock

This is similar to the US wind map we’ve talked about before, only way better.

The globe is like Google Earth, grab it, spin it, zoom it. Down at the bottom left, click on the EARTH text and enjoy viewing several different parameters. You’ll start out with surface winds, but you can climb up the levels of atmosphere, and explore the various levels of the jet stream. Ocean Currents too!

Was just looking at this site examining the storm affecting the West Coast. It’s impressive, from the surface to the upper atmosphere. It may be that the deep bend in the jet stream that has dominated North American weather over the past months is meandering west. The northern Pacific has been rather warm this year, which means a lot of moisture getting fed into the stream.

It’ll be an interesting Spring.
