"Being Human" October 14, 2011 12:09 pm Robert

Probably not at all coincidently, Syffy has set the date for the second season of Being Human just as Amazon has put the first season on sale. Fantastic pricing, actually: 13 episodes for $11 in low-def (DVD grade) and $17 for “HD” (720). Better than 50% off. My finger was clicking “buy” before I’d finished reading the title.

Being Human‘s second season begins January 16th. I have to tell you, that show got to me in its first season. A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost sounds like the opening to a walk-into-a-bar joke, but it really worked. At times I find myself hurting on each character’s behalf…you really can say “oh the humanity” as they fight to not give in to their inner monsters.

BTW, I sampled a couple of episodes in the original British, and didn’t like it. It seemed overbalanced toward the supernatural darkness of the characters, and none of them triggered that burst of empathy I felt for their American cousins. That made it rather ordinary, to me, just another tale of creatures among us.

I’m looking forward to seeing the first season again, and trying to time it to end up watching the last episode just before the second season opens. Ahhh, the joys of dumping your cable service and going all digital…
