Pricing puzzlement August 27, 2014 1:37 pm bowser

The pressure sensor and switch on the ‘house’ water pump broke off.  It ma have frozen, I don’t know.  After assidulously searching for a new one, I gave up and decided to buy a new pump.  Seemed to be my only choice.

I had purchased this pump in Tucson several years ago for $72, and that’s about what they go for now – more and less.  The same company makes a lot, a very lot of pumps, including one which has virtually identical specifications including warranty and average review (4.5).  Here’s the puzzlement.  Amazon and many other sell these.

The price range for the one I bought last week, all including freight, is $47 to $140.

The price range for the one I’m replacing is $72 to $154.

And all the others have the same variation.  That seems pretty wild to me.  Thank God for the internet.
