I just realized that it’s from Sanctuary’s Gilbert and Sullivan (“Fugue”) episode. Fired up the recording, and there it is, at 17 minutes (3:15 in the excerpt below): The alien possession aria by Abbey with Will doing counterpoint.
I’ve come to the conclusion that my initial negative review of that episode was off base. The other night, after this week’s episode, I went back to “Fugue” and sampled the musical passages. I found myself admitting that it wasn’t half bad–I don’t generally respond to musicals, remember–and noticed homages, like to the The Who’s Tommy in Magnus’s first sung line: “Abbey can you hear me?”. Bit of West Side Story, a Romeo and Juliet parapet duet, even an echo of Queen’s soundtrack to Flash Gordon.
I was wrong about the “Fugue” episode of Sanctuary. I’m sorry.
