The political events of the last few days will no doubt be dissected by future historians as a triumph of Clintonian Opposition Research and campaign propaganda.
Trump has been broadsided with undeniable evidence of his own grotesque vulgarity and boorishness, if not downright moral corruption and duplicity. And the timing! Only hours before the second debate, and just one month before the election, the Trumpster has been exposed for the prancing buffoon and drooling bully he really is, and that everyone (even his allies) must now admit publicly what they must have known all along. And when the Pences and Giulianis and Christies leap to his defense, they fall back fully saturated with the excrement they so loyally tried to wash off him.
Any valid questions and criticisms of his opponent, (such as the latest Wiki revelations about Clinton fawning and pandering to the Wall Street gangsters) is now erased and washed out by the full glare of coherent and monochromatic light reflected from Trump. (As an aside, it is interesting to note how even TPartiers are now being forced to admit Wall Streeters are gangsters, not entrepreneurial heroes. Thank you, Bernie!)
But there is an alternative explanation for these revelations. What if this public relations avalanche was not just another masterpiece of misdirection from the Clinton Machine? What if it came from the other side? What if the serial torpedoes launched into the Donald Dreadnought were carefully aimed and directed by a Republican submarine?
I have no proof, of course, but it is a delicious speculation and there is no shortage of purely circumstantial evidence to support it. The Republican establishment, and even many on the Far Right, have long realized Trump was more of a liability than an asset. They’ve covered for his excesses as best they could, but by now they realize he will not only lose the Presidency, he will probably make them pay a price in the legislature, the courts, and in local elections. He may have energized a long-slumbering piece of the Republican constituency, but you don’t have to be a Democrat to understand that these knuckle-draggers are more trouble than they’re worth, that they pose more of a threat to the country and the world than they present an advantage to Republican ideology. The Republican establishment, as well as some of the more articulate members of the Conservative intelligentsia, have realized for some time now that a Trump Presidency is as much a threat to them as it is to the Progressives. They have unleashed a pitchfork and torch wielding mob, and no one in its path is safe.
What if a decision was made, somewhere deep in Conservative Mordor, that it was time to cut losses, to abandon the Trumpster and make an effort to salvage as much as possible the Conservative gains that have survived the successes of the Obama Presidency and the disasters of the Bush Administration.
It had to be done quickly, at the last minute, so the inevitable fighting that followed the decision would hurt what was left of the GOP organization as little as possible, and it had to be done in such a way that only Trump would be the victim, the scapegoat, and the rest of the Party could cloak itself in a mantle of noble self-sacrifice. Besides gaining some credit from helping to dethrone the Frankenstein Monster, they would also obscure as much as possible their role in creating him. “See how patriotic our right wing friends are? They even sacrificed their own candidate for the sake of the public good.” And the rest of the GOP gets to cover their collective ass and boast how “We never supported him anyway. Trumpism could only have arisen as a response to the usurper Obama. We had nothing to do with it.”
What leads me to this interpretation is the source of the revelations about Trump; those infamous never-before-published interview tapes, which surfaced at such an opportune, precisely timed moment. I really doubt Howard Stern is a tool of the Mainstream Liberal Media, if he were that information would have been made public a long time ago. And Billy Bush, the Excess Hollywood scandal mongerer and publicity whore is, after all, a cousin of the Bush Baby. That family has plenty of very good reasons to despise the Donald. No, this information was carefully secured to protect the Party and only released at the precise moment where it could do the most damage to one man and one man only.
The debate is tonight. I will make no predictions how these new revelations will affect it, but I will certainly be there to watch. And if by any chance, Trump comes out on top and demolishes Hillary, I will stop posting on this site, and I will get my passport renewed–just in case.
