Today I learned Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for 2016.
Its highly deserved and long overdue. I can’t think of any other artist, not even the Beatles, who has done more to mold the world we live in today. His influence has been enormous, for his nation, his generation and for me, personally. I feel a profound sense of justification, affirmation, and vindication. And as an American, I feel intensely proud of my country for having produced a voice like his.
My favorite Dylan album: Blood on the Tracks (1975). It wasn’t political, or social, or cultural. It wasn’t even controversial. Its just about love and regret. And that, after all, is why we need poets, isn’t it?
