Yep, Trump is really looking out for the little guy…
A twice-divorced TV preacher once investigated by the U.S. Senate for questionable fundraising practices is slated to pray at Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Paula White, pastor of New Destiny Christian Center, is scheduled to participate in the President-elect’s swearing-in ceremony alongside other faith leaders including New York Archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan and The Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.
The Senate Finance Committee in 2011 launched an investigation into the spending of White and five other prosperity preachers, but the inquiry ended with no penalty for the televangelists.
According to the audit, White’s former church, Without Walls International, took in $150 million between 2004 and 2006. She and her then-husband also owned a private airplane and several multimillion-dollar properties, including a $3.5 million Trump Tower condo.
White funded her lavish lifestyle in part by encouraging people to partner with her church — for a monthly fee — and peddling DVDs of her sermons at $50 apiece, according to CNN.Prosperity preachers, sometimes labeled by other Christians as heretics, believe material objects and wealth are signs of God’s favor. They often encourage people to join their church, which would require them to pay “seed money,” in order to find their own prosperity.
