The shooting of two Indians in a crowded suburban Kansas City bar has sent shock waves through their hometowns, and India’s government is rushing diplomats to monitor progress in the investigation into the crime.
Adam Purinton, 51, reportedly told the two Garmin engineers to “get out of my country” before he opened fire Wednesday night in Austins Bar & Grill in Olathe.

The suspect fled on foot and was arrested five hours after the shooting at an Applebee’s restaurant in Clinton, Missouri. He reportedly told an employee there he needed a place to hide because he had killed two Middle Eastern men, the Star reported.

A survivor of the Kansas City bar shooting that witnesses believe was racially motivated said the alleged shooter asked two of the victims about their visas before he eventually opened fire on the eatery.
“He asked us what visa we are currently on and whether we are staying here illegally,” Alok Madasani told the New York Times Friday night.
The 32-year-old Garmin employee and 24-year-old Ian Grillot were injured in Wednesday’s shooting at Austins Bar and Grill in Olathe, Kansas. Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, died in the attack.
Kuchibhotla and Madasani, both immigrants from India, were H1B visa holders and working in the U.S. legally.
