Malcolm Turnbull is not alone: Foreign leaders poke fun at Donald Trump

Far from being cowed by Trump’s vow to achieve “peace through strength,” fellow world leaders appear emboldened to poke fun at him as a way to bolster their own political standing. To a degree, the strategy is similar to one employed by Democrats, celebrities and some Republicans who have calculated that mocking Trump can boost their own popularity.
“In the private conversations I’ve had with heads of states and ministers of foreign relations . . . they all feel what Turnbull just basically came out and said: This is, by far, the least capable person ever to sit in the office and it’s appalling they have to deal with him,” said Ian Bremmer, president of Eurasia Group, a global risk assessment firm. “Even in a country that really needs to have a good relationship with the United States, you’re just not willing to deal with it. Your own ego will say, ‘Screw this guy.’ “
Keep in mind. These guys are not victims of the fake news and alternate facts of the American Liberal Lamestream Media. They have arrived at their conclusions completely independently.
You know, any country can have a run of bad luck, or make a mistake and elect a real jerk to office. This does not reflect badly on America. What does reflect badly is how most Conservatives have closed ranks behind this vulgar clown, continue to support him and make excuses for him. Even those in his party who are obviously appalled at his antics seem to be pulling their punches, and looking the other way, refraining from criticizing him publicly. They are certainly not posting here in the Zone, either to defend their man or concede his assholiness. They are so greedy for power, for their tax cuts and corporate giveaways and so determined to put the Age of Obama behind them that they are willing to put up with this Clockwork Papaya.
About 30-40% of the voters of this country still support Donald Trump. But about 80% of his party still feel compelled to support him (at least publicly). That is the real disgrace. That is something America can be really ashamed of. TRUMP IS NOT THE PROBLEM. The real horror is that a major American political party is willing to publicly align themselves with him just to further their self-serving economic and social agenda.
But Barack is still a young man. He’ll be around for a while, and he will travel to foreign countries and be received by leaders and the people there. Obama will be remembered as representative of the Old America; what the nation was like when it was still respected and admired throughout the world and led by a poised and sober man of intellect and erudition, a man who could at least speak and write good English.
He will write books and attend conferences and be interviewed by journalists as he comments on world affairs. For as long as he lives, he will represent the fundamental difference between the two Americas.
Trump will be lucky to get a guest spot on FOX.
You want US and THEM, baby? There it is.
