Not a new story, just another episode in the ongoing story of the Multnomah County (OR) Republican Party (all 187 of them) feeling so threatened by the “lawlessness and violence” of leftists they feel compelled to assemble their own army of brown shirts, including dead-enders from the Malheur Refuge insurrection, Oath Breakers, and other anti-government militias. Said Party Chairman James Buchal:
And people who volunteer to provide security services to Republicans are generally going to be people who share the view that the government has developed an unconstitutional overreach of power, and that it is a reasonable political objective to attempt to rein government in.
What’s striking about the Portland Brown Shirt Army, of course, is their conviction that the Second Amendment is the only way to “rein government in”.
A lot’s been written about “the warning signs of fascism”, and near #1 on most lists is “assembling your own private army” (also #2 on the Bond Villain Checklist, after “buy an island”, but I digress). The more Republicans squeal in indignation at being called fascist, the more clearly they’re guilty of the charge.
