Republican tax plan would triple or quadruple taxes on graduate students November 15, 2017 5:40 pm RL

Many graduate students lucky enough to get accepted to a graduate school get most or all of their tuition waived and get paid a pittance to teach… in return the university gets people to work around the clock to assist in research, and teachers for classes.

As a Grad student in the late 1990′s I made – in the best years MAYBE $18,000 out of which I had to pay rent, living expenses and buy textbooks… I worked many 24 hour or longer shifts in the lab… taking a second job was NOT possible if I were to do my graduate research and attend classes…

The proposed tax plan will now tax these students for the amount of tuition waived by the schools- this will now make it impossible for many students to consider grad school…

How will reducing the number of trained PhDs Make America Great Again?
