I hate foodies. June 8, 2018 5:53 am ER

Food is just fuel. And it tastes good. Period. So what? As long as there’s plenty of it available, I can’t think of a bigger waste of time than obsessing about it. But in spite of that, I was a big fan of Anthony Bourdain, never missed his TV shows. He was a fascinating man, and he did interesting things. And I envied his way of looking at the world and people. I don’t care that much for travel, or strangers, myself.

Now he’s dead, and by his own hand, too. I don’t know any more details than that, but its still a shock. He was the last one I would have expected to go like that, and I find his passing very troublesome, a “great disturbance in the Force” kind of thing.

There’s something profoundly unsettling about his death. Its like suddenly there’s a lot less to be hopeful about.

RIP, Tony.
