I have repeatedly pointed out on this forum the hypocrisy of Conservatives when they complain so loudly about “illegal” foreign workers, while they make no effort to suggest that the easiest way to slow down the flow of illegals across the border is to simply enforce existing laws about hiring them. It wouldn’t take much to convince hiring them is expensive and dangerous, and the problem would go away overnight, guaranfuckingteed.

The fact this doesn’t seem to happen is difficult to explain without recognizing that the business community profits mightily from illegal workers who will not only work for a pittance, but who are so afraid of losing their jobs that they will endure difficult and unfair working conditions with no complaint. That makes sense, its how capitalism works, if you make it very difficult for foreigners to come here to work, but not totally impossible for them to do so, wages can be driven down to very low levels. And these two parameters can easily be tuned to drive wages for everyone, legal and illegal, way, way down.

What this doesn’t explain is why Democrats opposed to Republican immigration policies don’t seize on this hypocrisy and flog the GOP with it. They’ve got them dead to rights and its the perfect way to expose the sham and deceit implicit in right-wing immigration policy.

At first, I thought it was because lots of Democrats own businesses that also profit from illegal foreign labor. I also realize that Democratic politicians want the votes of American citizens with undocumented relatives and friends, so they wish to pander to those blocs. No doubt both of these forces contribute to the Democratic reluctance to bring this issue up in political debate.

But I also understand that these two observations do not fully explain the facts. I’m enough of an amateur propagandist to know how the GOP position could be publicly dismantled without the Democrats losing too much, and this is confirmed by the fact that Republicans also seem reluctant to point out Democratic hypocrisy is this matter, as it would only serve to highlight their own.

I know what the illegals think about it. They are convinced all gringos are self-serving hypocrites, and I find it very difficult to show them how they are mistaken.

Can anyone help me out on this?
