Mme Reclus and I are binge-watching one of our favorites, a UK detective series called “New Tricks”. The episode we were watching last night shows the cops questioning a suspect, a Pakistani gentleman, who complains how when he first came to Britain he had encountered a great deal of racism. He mentions how he had been told more than once; “Why don’t you go back to where you came from?”
Imagine that. Of course, that phrase is not racist, is it? And incidentally, that particular episode was filmed about ten years ago. Just an old Southern tradition…
