According to the nsidc website interactive polar ice chart at
https://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/charctic-interactive-sea-ice-graph/
Sea Ice Extent on day 261 of the year is tied for second place with the minimum of 2007 on the same day. SIE may still drop a bit more as wind and current compact or disperse sea ice, but the melting season is, for all practical purposes, over. From now on, the ice will start to come back as the long polar night proceeds.
The SIE for today is exactly the same as 2007–4.153 x 10^6 km^2.
The all time record minimum for the satellite era occurred on day 261, 2012; 3.387 x 10^6 km^2. The mean (of years 1981-2010) minimum of SIE also occurs on day 261 at 6.334 x 10^6 km^2.
