I’m sure there were no direct orders from the President to his acceptance speech audience to NOT wear masks or practice social distancing on the White House lawn. But for the most part, they demonstrated their loyalty and courage by displaying the depth of their commitment to him with their bare-faced, crowded assembly.
Its really a form of self-censorship, I guess we should call it The Sturgis Effect. You advertise your political correctness even when it is not required of you, and peer pressure and bourgeois conformity drives the whole process. They’re gonna show those antifa, anarchist, socialist Libs who the real tough guys are. It is the badge of the faithful, the uniform of the true believer, it plays the same role as a prison tattoo or gangsta colors..
I’m sure every person there, including the President, was perfectly aware of the unnecessary risk they were taking, but somehow their action communicated more than just childish refusal to take even the most elementary precaution. It demonstrated their devotion and support, their undying (maybe not for long) dedication to the cause. It was the blood oath of the Berserkers.
We’re screwed. What can men do against such reckless hate?
