Licorice Pizza is a movie I would not have enjoyed in my youth, but I found it delicious in the present.
I kept asking myself why I was enjoying it and then it struck me- it’s art. It brought the flavor of 1970′s California into your being in a way reminiscent of 60′s New York portrayed in “Mad Men”.
It was cinematic poetry for hipsters who have a notion of the insanity of Hollywood at the time.
It was a mixture of absurdity along the lines of “Napoleon Dynamite” and not unlike Steven Wright’s humor.
I found my past self criticizing me for liking it. It made me think about Dennis Hopper’s character in “Apocalypse Now” and his admiration for the insanity of colonel Kurtz.
Grab yourself a slice.
