A Ukrainian victory over Putin’s Russia apparently has strong bipartisan support, but the new GOP simply cannot let the Democrats benefit politically from a foreign policy triumph. What better way for Biden to look bad than to have Ukraine lose the war–on the Dem’s watch.? Creative obstruction is the latest tool for the Conservative movement. Why else would the GOP oppose routine public health measures to fight Covid, or block the enforcing of existing hiring regulations for foreign workers in order to aggravate the immigration crisis? And speaking of immigration, the bipartisan “Gang of Eight” plan to reform US immigration law looked like it might have a chance of passing, the Tea Party did a 180 and put a stop to it.

Ever since Romney opposed Obama’s Federal plan to implement Romney’s own Michigan plan to fund health insurance, I’ve noticed this as a feature of Conservative politics. When Obama sought Congressional approval to extend the War Powers Act to enforce his “Line in the Sand” policy in Syria, Congress recessed early, then blamed Obama for “doing nothing”.

It appears to me that Republican policy now does not merely disagree with Democratic solutions to problems, it opposes any solution that might be passed while the Democrats control the government–even if the policy originated from the Right. They’re not afraid Liberal policies won’t work. They’re afraid they might.
