Good news, for a change? Maybe not. June 27, 2022 6:17 am ER

Unless we can figure fusion out, fission power is the only way I can see out of our present energy crisis. But fission is suicidal unless some way of properly disposing the wastes can be conceived and implemented. We tried it, but couldn’t get it to work. France claimed to have solved the problem, but I’m not convinced. Maybe the Finns have a solution…

The concept seems good, but I don’t like that its so close to the sea. A sea level rise of only a few meters would make the site inaccessible., and provide a mechanism to bring wastes to the surface. At the very least, it compromises one characteristic every waste disposal site should have: In the event you change your mind, or there is a drastic deterioration of our technological capabilities, you should be able to recover the waste easily and safely and move it somewhere else.
