There have been at least three press reports of rogue waves in the last month. A huge wave crashed on a South African beach, several people are missing. A corvette of the Royal Thai Navy was struck by one in the Gulf of Thailand. the ship capsized and 30 crewmen are missing. A rogue wave struck a cruise ship in the South Atlantic Several passengers were injured and there was significant damage to the vessel. The cruiser was taking ecotourists to the Antarctic.

Reports like this are not unusual, but I’ve never heard of so many occurring in such a short time. I was on a Navy destroyer for a year, underway pretty much the whole time, including many storms, and I never experienced anything like this. Neither had any of my shipmates.
