I miss the old Ted April 18, 2012 7:20 am ER

I’m putting this on CE because the Motor City Madman is in the news again. Forgive the man’s inane politics, and his infantile music.
Whatever hard times he may have fallen into ideologically or artistically, there will always be a soft spot in my heart for the Nuge.

This is the Ted Nugent I will always remember, the mad metal genius who put together the signature “Ted Nugent” album, pictured here, in the 70s. It is his masterpiece, and one of the very best rock albums ever produced.

The LP took my group of friends by storm, and we caught the tour when it came to town. Yes, he can do it live, it’s not just studio magic. The perfect metal showman, pure genius. Sure, some credit must be given Derek St Holmes, his rhythm (second lead, actually) guitarist who is the voice on this track of the album, and the rest of the ensemble cooks too, but Nugent deserves great credit also, if not most, at least half, those riffs and licks are his.

Every track on this record is as tight and disciplined as this one, it is an astonishing document, and it justifies this man’s life. Be not too harsh on what Ted has become. He’s earned his time and place on this planet. And I am willing to put up with any man, who so long ago, could give us this.
