My last post about breasts. May 18, 2012 8:51 pm ER

I’ve just finished watching a show about Miau Pialug, the last surviving Micronesian Wayfinder, or navigator. I’ve written about him here before, he was a great man (he died a few years ago) who preserved and taught the traditional methods of navigation used by stone age peoples to settle the Pacific Basin a thousand years ago.

The documentary ended with a pair of his canoes, built to his specifications and navigated by his methods, sailed to his home island from Hawaii to honor him.

The boats were welcomed at the island with a traditional feast, including the usual native girls dancing in their traditional costumes. But the girls’ bared breasts were pixellated out, presumably so as not to offend the modesty of Western viewers.

It made me wonder just who the real primitives are.
