Arctic sea ice extent averaged for April 2015 was the second lowest in the satellite record for the month. Through 2015, the linear rate of decline for April extent is 2.4% per decade.

Remember, the all-time record low ice year (September melt) was 2012. As the graph above shows, 2012 (the dashed line)seemed a pretty unexceptional year until early in June, when the bottom fell out. Its still too early to tell what will happen this year come the equinox.
