He pretends to be a Hillbilly but grew up in the suburbs and went to Yale.

He was a Pentecostal Christian. Became an atheist. Converted to Catholic in 2019. Marries a Hindu woman. Is raising his kids to worship Jesus and Hindu gods.

He speculated that Donald Trump might be “America’s Hitler.” His book Hillbilly Elegy attacks conspiracy-mongers and fringe lunatics who spread lies about Barack Obama’s religion and birthplace. It laments the corrosive cynicism that led many in his white working-class community to embrace these falsehoods. Vance talked about the GOPs self-defeating beliefs that it can’t trust the news or politicians. Universities, which are the gateway to a better life, are rigged. He added, “You can’t believe these things and participate meaningfully in society.”

Vance now promotes all the things he railed against. He didn’t just change his views, he swapped his entire public persona. He now says Alex Jones is more trustworthy than Rachel Maddow. Biden is intentionally flooding the country with fentanyl to kill off MAGA voters. Universities are the enemy. The transformation is so extreme it’s impossible to think it is not pure cynical opportunism.
