Scientists create ‘Superwood’ that’s 10 times stronger than steel

A US company has engineered a new type of wood that it says has up to 10 times the strength-to-weight ratio of steel, while also being up to six times lighter.

The objective is to replace steel, not wood. It has 90% lower carbon footprint than steel in the manufacturing process. It will likely revolutionize construction and the article focuses on that.

What I was thinking about, which the article doesn’t mention at all, is using it to replace steel in vehicles. It’s far stronger and much lighter. It would need to be made fire resistant obviously, but it could be a game changer in a lot of ways.
