About a week ago I videotaped an interview with a very nice intelligent young woman. The company that hired me to do it is making a short documentary about her. She’s 30 years old and works at the defense dept. as an accountant. About three years ago they sent her to a US territory way out somewhere near Guam.
She became sick out there and when she came home to Hawaii she went immediately to the hospital. They sent her home and told her to take a few tylenol. Her mother brought her back to the hospital that night because she was doing so poorly. It turns out she had contracted bacterial meningitis. She ended up having all four of her limbs amputated.
I had some anxiety before meeting her but she was such a cool and real person, and so smart, after talking to her for 20 seconds I barely even noticed her disability anymore.
I’ve been thinking about her all week. Man does that ever put my life and my problems in perspective…
