Private Prisons August 19, 2016 6:39 am ER

I heard on the news the other day the Federal Government will no longer be renewing contracts with privately operated prisons to house prisoners, citing safety reasons, concerns that costs are too high, and that convict programs are not being sufficiently implemented. Not mentioned, but no doubt a part of this decision, is the realization that providing a financial incentive to private companies to maintain the prison population as high (and as cheaply) as possible is a conflict of interest and inherently unjust.

Still, some exceptions might be made. Privately operated prisons might be particularly appropriate for white collar criminals and those convicted of corporate crimes.
