The Avro Arrow April 3, 2017 9:22 pm mcfly

Avro Arrow replica could take to the skies after decades of work

The creation, and eventual destruction, of the Avro Arrow marked turning points in the history of Canadian aviation. The aircraft was without a doubt a remarkable achievement, and would have put Canada firmly on the technological map. However, the program was ended by Prime Minister John Diefenbaker–a conservative, btw. He later claimed that he didn’t want to see Canada become an arms-exporting country. He didn’t just cancel the program, he *destroyed* it, by ordering all existing copies of the aircraft be chopped to pieces–literally.

My dad, who piloted a Lanc for the RCAF in WW2 and spent the rest of his life in the Canadian aerospace industry, never forgave him.
