Arm teachers? Yeah right. April 12, 2018 2:30 pm ER

https://www.salon.com/2018/04/12/parkland-teacher-who-pushed-for-arming-teachers-left-a-loaded-gun-unattended/

A chemistry teacher at the Florida high school where 17 people were fatally killed on February 14 has been arrested. Authorities say he left a gun in a public bathroom, where a drunk homeless man picked it up and fired it. The gun was loaded.
No one was injured, and the teacher at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was charged with failing to safely store a firearm, a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of 60 days in jail. The weapon belonged to Sean Simpson, who teaches chemistry, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Simpson posted a $250 cash bond and was released.

This is not an isolated case. Things like this happen all the time, as some judicious use of Google will reveal. Its just that now they are making the news. Although I have no way of proving it, I suspect that arming school personnel will lead to more gun deaths due to loss, theft, crime or accident than will be prevented by discouraging, fighting off or killing criminals.

The only sure way to reduce gun deaths is to reduce the number of guns. Period. Full stop. Banning guns may not stop the deaths, but the less guns there are, the less people will die. It really is that simple.
