Yeah, yeah, I know. This August’s melt isn’t anywhere near as severe as the record years of 2012 and 2007, but the overall trend of sea ice extent for the last 40-odd years is still a loss of about 1%/yr.

Early in October, Watch this space for the September numbers–the month Arctic sea ice extent bottoms out.
