A suggested amendment January 29, 2019 6:57 pm mcfly

IMHO, if you wanna run for prez, you should already have a legitimate track record in public office. One full term as a governor, as a member of congress or as mayor of a major city (say, with a population over 1 million).

That way the electorate could get a sense of how each candidate handles political power…indeed, we’d have an idea of whether or not they even understand politics…an important concern in the age of Trump and his crayon approach to public policy.

I’d also suggest that such a requirement would have kept The Very Stable Genius from even entering the race. Can you imagine him with any interest at all in serving in a lower office before running for top dog? Even if he *had* tried, he would have left behind the same kind of disaster he’s leaving on the national stage. That track record in politics may have provided us with the cautionary tale we would have needed to laugh him off the stage.

So yeah, I’m suggesting a constitutional amendment. Call it McFly’s McFolly. But I think maybe if one is unwilling to establish a record in politics—to show America what kind of political leader one is—then one needs to live somewhere other than the White House.
