This Morning's Spam Storm June 17, 2011 10:30 am podrock

Twelve posts were marked as spam today. Looking over the posts, there are some interesting patterns.

The first posts are usually around 1:00 am followed by a flurry of posts from about 6 to 8 am.

The spam targets the same twelve threads everyday.

While there have been posts that have been at virtually the same moment, usually there is a gap of about 10 minutes between posts. This morning it was almost predictable and I was able to zap some of them seconds after they were posted.

There are three types of posts: the bad speller, the coder, and the six and a link. Are these three different individuals? At times it seems that the bad speller gets it rolling with posts just after midnight, and the other two come in first thing in the morning.

Right now, I’m thinking it is not a bot, but rather three people conversing in code. Still would like to know if they are logged on or not. We may have to go to approving comments from the non-registered.

Meanwhile, it’s wack-a-mole.
