Using cell phones while driving. June 6, 2012 4:30 pm bowser

http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/06/12090348-massachusetts-teen-sentenced-to-prison-for-texting-while-driving?lite

“A Massachusetts teenager was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison and loss of his license for 15 years for causing a fatal crash by texting while driving.”

Two years doesn’t sound like much.

It may just be hyperawareness, but I think I’ve noticed many, many more people weaving over both lines in traffic, driving very slowly then speeding up and then slowing, people waiting at lights long after they’ve turned green, and more.  I attribute that to cell phone use, myself.

And I think I was a better driver drunk than I was using a cell phone.  I’d advocate for it being illegal to use cell phones while driving, as it is, but with better detection procedures and increased penalties which are not fines.  Suspension of driving privileges would be a better penalty.

But those things are dangerous.  To everyone.
