What do people think about "pay per mile" road tax? April 10, 2014 9:03 pm bowser

“Wednesday North Carolina’s Board of Transportation Funding Committee will hear more about a proposal that would charge drivers a tax for every mile they drive. A study completed by North Carolina State University will be presented explaining in part how such a plan would work. A proposal would be to charge .5-cents-per-mile for cars the study says would generate $495 million in annual state revenue.  At issue are falling state gas tax revenues in part because of more fuel-efficient cars requiring less gas. North Carolina drivers currently pay one of the highest gas taxes in the nation.”

They are ingenious bastards, aren’t they?

The illusion that this is a “free” country with the rights to “private” property seems to be pervasive.  However, don’t pay your property tax, or don’t pay your car license or buy a driver’s license and see how long you are going to live there or drive.  The various governments act as if the property is theirs and they rent it to you.

It takes a lifetime of brainwashing to convince US citizens this is a free country or there is private property.  (We do have some advantages, true.  We can bitch all we want, but no longer in private.  I have to admit that I love paying taxes, I bless the government, thank God for NSA eavesdropping and protecting me from the non-governmental badguys, I am a happy camper who doesn’t need his civil rights.  Whatever makes it easier on the government I am all for.  Not a rebellious bone in my body.  Praise The Lord.)
