Antarctic sea ice news -- II January 8, 2019 11:50 am ER

Yes, things are definitely heating up down under.

Keep in mind, the continental ice pack is in no immediate danger of melting away, it is thousands of meters thick in places, and the shape of the S polar cap is not likely to change substantially during our lifetime, no matter how much of it melts away. But the floating sea ice surrounding the continent is now starting to show signs of severe decline, just as it has in the Arctic for years/ The total area of the white reflective surface is decreasing, and in summer that solar radiation will be absorbed into the ocean, not reflected back into space. I’m afraid we’ve passed another milestone.
