You didn’t just accept the atrocities meted out by Trump- you reveled in them… as we pointed out the blatant racism, as we pointed out, accurately, where all this was headed you gaslit us and told us we were crazy and crying wolf.

People died, children were tortured and taken from their parents, neo-nazis were given permission to rise up, and called ‘fine people’, white supremacists were given positions of power, hundreds of thousands of Americans were sacrificed to incompetence as the man you cheered on played politics with the distribution of lifesaving medical equipment… women are about to become second class citizens thanks to the supreme court that was stolen by the people you supported.

The monster you supported with religious zeal is still burning through our nation and likely to rise again to finish the job, as you run off to Canada to escape the wreckage you gleefully helped create.

Had Trump won the last election or had been successful in his coup, people that refused to accept the death of our democracy would have been singled out for destruction… and they very likely will be anyway when the evil he unleashed eventually seizes power.

I know you like to consider yourself a victim- That is what helped make you so eager to support a ‘strongman’ like Trump- but you voted for a bully so he would bully others in your name- you didn’t have to get your hands dirty, or risk anything…other than your soul, and the lives of other people. Both were cheap in your eyes, readily traded  for a con-man’s promise to make you a ‘winner’. That makes YOU a bully, and a cowardly one at that.

And as you read this, I have no doubt you are convinced I am the bully and you are the victim. I am simply outraged at what you participated in, the harm it did to our nation, and the glee you expressed when the powerless suffered for your actions. Maybe you think I should just be mildly disapproving, pat you on the back and say ‘We disagree, but we can still be friends’? Really? When the extent of the damage is so overwhelming? No. I am not just ‘upset’, or just ‘disappointed’, I am outraged… as a result of what you helped to happen I will almost certainly watch our democracy die within the next decade… most likely in the next three years.

A man can be judged by his friends, and perhaps even more so by his enemies- you can keep friends by simply remaining silent, you make enemies from speaking up- so that is why we cannot be friends- I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror.

When was the last time you were able to do that without wincing?
