Like the Great War, or Vietnam, or Afghanistan, wars are dynamic processes, often morphing into complex objects/events/ecosystems with their own metabolism and consciousness, unconnected to the needs and desires of the human participants involved.
I can see now how elements in our own government recognize these possibilities, which may explain our own reluctance to provide Ukrainians with all the materiel they need to defend themselves in a just cause. It may turn out that Biden is the right man at this point in time. But how long can he control this situation? The latest escalation is cluster munitions. What’s next, long range weapons? gas? biological agents?, tactical nukes? It is the nature of “slopes” to be “slippery”. And the Far East looms in all our futures. Yes, this is Putin’s war, he is fully to blame. But events have a way of slipping out of our control, and we are all involved whether we like it or not.
