Next up, Athena lunar lander March 6 March 3, 2025 1:48 pm BuckGalaxy

This giraffe sized lander will set down near Marston crater at the lunar South Pole. It’s payload includes a 3′ drill that will dig for ice, a mass spectrometer to analyize the regolith, a rover to extend the mission reach and provide comm uplink, and a micro hopper robot with a three mile range that will jump into the crater and search for ice.

This is a big mission. I’m really hoping this one goes well.

  • Coverage of Athena's landing attempt will begin at 11:30 a.m. EST (1630 GMT) on Thursday, with a targeted landing set for approximately 12:32 p.m. EST by BuckGalaxy 2025-03-05 18:56:36
