Amazing Smartphone Augmentation November 23, 2013 2:57 pm Ainz

The crowd funded snooperscope is an upcoming wireless optical device for Android and IOS smartphones.

Now, this is an IR illuminated night vision device, which have their uses, but what jumped out at me is the potential for amateur astronomy.

If the optics were adapted to the visible, or full spectrum, it seems like it would be a pretty cool add-on to a Celestron or Meade scope. (or whatever we can afford)

Linked to a late model smartphone, (Galaxy S4 just for example) you would suddenly have a cloud networked telescope with 8 MP HD video, GPS, 32 GB storage, access to a zillion follow on Apps, and real-time image manipulation.

Maybe it could even be slaved to the Oculus Rift panoramic VR visor.

It’s an amazing time we live in.
