A thought-provoking comparison. December 13, 2013 7:44 pm bowser

http://www.nbcnews.com/science/melting-ice-sleeping-giant-will-push-sea-levels-higher-scientist-2D11741831

“By the time today’s preschoolers are babysitting their grandkids, global sea levels are likely to be pushing 2 feet higher than they are now and on the way to topping 8 feet above current levels by the year 2200, according to a new study.”

There are a lot of people who sincerely deny anthropologic global warming and refuse to cooperate with international efforts to control it.

Now, consider this.  What would be their reaction of an asteroid, or series of asteroids, was to threaten the same damage?  What demands would there be for international efforts to divert the asteroids and mitigate the damage?  There would be screams, demands, threats and blaming even before efforts began.

There will be an issue with an asteroid sometime, someday, and it will be dealt with.  There IS an issue with global warming and it won’t be dealt with.

It would seem the sooner one sells their Florida property the more they will get for it.  And the sooner they purchase higher ground the less expensive it will be.  In the meantime incredible amounts of money will be spent trying to fend off the inevitable on ‘ad hoc’ bases, patches here and there.

We’d be better off abandoning the low ground rather than trying to keep places like New Orleans around.  Abandoning them sooner rather than later, anyway, as they are gone.  There isn’t the money to keep the present coastlines.
