What a grim, humorless affair it was. I’ve never seen so much bitterness, such vitriol, so much self-righteous indignation. I really do believe they’re capable of talking themselves into almost anything. They have god on their side, and their god is not only an American, he’s a Republican. It definitely had an Old Testament ring to it: no one smiled, or laughed, unless they were mocking their enemies, or wallowing in maudlin sentiment. No, I’m not just expressing my skepticism about Conservative values and opposition to their policies. THIS year, it’s different. I’ve never seen it quite like this before.

I’m afraid of what they’ll do if they win this election.
But I’m even more afraid of what they’ll try to do if they don’t.
